Hi
I am Martin Walker a self confessed catfish nut since the early 90's and I run Catfish Capers on the River Ebro in the town of Caspe in Northern Spain. Prior to this I ran Catfishing 98, 99 and 2000 in France on the Rivers Tarn and Saone, guiding clients to 100lb plus fish on both venues, these were bivvy based trips using an eight foot dinghy to row out baits, oh boy have things moved on since then. In 2000 I decided to change the name, adding another year to catfishing was becoming a pain. I wanted to have catfish in the name and another word that reflected fun and enjoyment and if it started with a C and was about the same length then so much the better. Then out of the blue came capers, I checked my dictionary caper “a high-spirited escapade” and our name was born “Catfish Capers”.

Gareth Edwards has joined us, he has several years experience as a guide with Catmaster Tours. He will give us a further edge when fishing down stream at Mequinenza having guided fish for clients over 200lb (basically I have not really fished there much over the last seven years and lost touch a bit) I am sure that those of you taking up the option of fishing at Mequinenza will find his local knowledge second to none. He found out to his surprise during his first two months just how many fish we have been catching during the colder months. He has settled in well and I am sure he will be a great asset to the company

From March 2008 it’s also possible to fish at Catfish Capers and be guided by the Dutch guide Ronnie. and when you contact us through the Nederlands link you will be answered in Dutch by Angelique. From February 2008 Ronnie and Angelique will live in Caspe with their 2 daughters and help me any way they can to please Dutch speaking anglers.

In 2001 I purchased a 21ft dory and rented a villa on the edge of Mequinenza. Paul Young and the crew of “ Hooked on Fishing” came down to make a programme during which Paul had our largest fish of the year from the top lake at 128lb. My clients then had a choice of boat fishing up on the top lake or bank fishing at Mequinenza. After the peace and quite of the top lake most of my clients just wanted to continue up there so the following year I moved up to Caspe. Since 2002 we have been based in Caspe with two apartments above “La Bodeguita” restaurant, adding “La Barca” just outside Chiprana at the end of 2005

The fleet now consists of

2 x 21ft dories with 115hp engine for guiding

1 x 17ft dory with 75hp engine for guiding

6 x 14ft boats with 15hp engine for guiding

4 x 8ft dinghies to row out baits when bank fishing or non-guided
